PIXI ROSE FLASH BALM & ROSE CAVIAR ESSENCE REVIEW

Just before Christmas, I and a bunch of fellow bloggers received the most gorgeous treat from the babes down at Pixi Beauty. A hefty box with a rose gold padlock (of course) arrived at my door and once unlocked revealed the prettiest collection of rose infused skincare and makeup. I've reviewed Pixi products a couple of times on this blog, and some of their skincare and makeup is now part of my everyday routine. That's why I was so excited to try out their new rose additions: the rose flash balm, rose caviar essence and mattelast liquid lipsticks, infused with rosehip oil.

PIXI ROSE CAVIAR ESSENCE REVIEW

Out of Pixi's entire rose infused range, my standout piece has to be their rose oil blend, and that hasn't changed. It's my skin's saviour, fixing not only dry skin but break outs, too. So I had high hopes for Pixi's new rose caviar essence*, which is designed to quench your skin's thirst, with a weightless serum filled with flower oils. It's recommended you use this after cleansing and toning, just patting it onto the skin. So, the night after this gorgeous little package arrived, that's exactly what I did. The serum really is weightless, feeling like a hydrating gel, but after 30 seconds, the rose caviar essence had sunk in and I still felt like I needed more moisture. Bear in mind, my skin is on the drier side, so may need more moisture than most, but if you have oily skin, I think this might be more up your street. It's a luxurious product and would be great as part of a proper pampering routine, but don't expect it to keep your skin feeling hydrated for too long. 3/5

PIXI ROSE FLASH BALM REVIEW by Liverpool beauty blogger

Literally the day this package arrived, me and my mum were in Harvey Nichols beauty bazaar in town, not realising what was waiting for me at home, and picked up the Pixi rose flash balm*. My mum loves a bit of Pixi Beauty, and used to swear by Clarins' flash balm, so this felt like a good choice. Me, on the other hand, I'm a bit of a flash balm novice. After doing a bit of research, it turns out this can be used both as a primer and a mask, just by layering on more of it and washing it off five minutes later. As a primer, I'm a fan. It's not too sticky and seems to work well with both Kat Von D lock it foundation and Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r foundation, and it looks good without foundation, too.

As a mask though, I have to be honest, I just don't get it. For me, a mask should be thick and either super moisturising or so good it rips out all your blackheads at once. After slathering this on and leaving for the suggested five minutes, I felt neither hydrated nor particularly clean. Again, maybe this works differently on different skin types, but I'll be sticking to using this as a primer. 3.5/5

PIXI MATTELAST liquid lipstick SWATCHES

PIXI beauty MATTELAST liquid lipsticks

It might seem unusual to be talking about matte liquid lipsticks in the same post reviewing rose infused skincare, but these mattelast lipsticks* are infused with rosehip oil to keep your lips hydrated whilst staying completely matte. I've had a go at swatching these for you, and whilst I'm not the best beauty blogger I'm pretty happy with my effort, to be honest. From left to right, we have au naturelle, matte beige, pastel petal, really rose and evening rose. My personal favourites are au naturelle and matte beige, with evening rose reminding me a lot of Kat Von D's famous Lolita shade. I've searched online to find some swatches on dark skin, but had absolutely no luck, which sucks. I think these shades would suit any skin tone, but all I can find are swatches on paler skin.. Come on Pixi Beauty, I love you, but diversify your swatches!

As you can see, the darker shades are a teeny bit less opaque than the lighter three, but after another coat look just as good. I can vouch for their long lasting qualities, too. I've wore these shades to work a few times and they've lasted from 8am until about 4pm. That includes lunch and a couple of coffees, too. They're not quite as good as Kat Von D's everlasting liquid lips in terms of formula for me, but they're up there, coming a close second. 4.5/5

Have you tried any of these products? Or anything else from Pixi that you think I would like? Let me know! Whilst the rose caviar essence and rose flash balm might not be my favourites, I absolutely love their skin care, so send your recommendations my way.

Good vibes guys ✌🏼
