You'd have to have been living under a rock for the last year to have not noticed fashion's obsession with customised denim, especially customised jeans. Whether it be iron on patches, embroidered jeans, raw hem jeans or anything else, everybody is tearing up their denim and making it their own. Whilst customising an old pair of jeans may have been one of the first DIY projects we all did as kids, I thought I'd do it again, and this time make a video out of it. I'm actually really pleased with how it turned out, plus it's only two minutes, so please give it a watch and let me know what you think?
I bought these mom jeans / boyfriend jeans hybrid well over a year ago in Forever 21, they were two sizes too big and for some reason I thought, 'yeah, these will look great'. Of course I wore them less than a handful of times and they ended up getting thrown to the back of my wardrobe, wasting away. That's where this iron on patch, a pair of scissors and a bit of embroidery thread come in to save the day. With just this handful of things and about an hour of my time, I managed to create a pair of DIY raw hem jeans with embroidery I'm really proud of, and now actually want to wear.
All I needed was an iron on patch, I found this pop punk af one on eBay, a pair of scissors, a needle, pen/pencil and some embroidery thread. So even if your sewing skills are not so neat, this DIY denim jeans tutorial should be right up your street. Better yet, you can totally change it to suit your style. Choose the iron on patch of your dreams, place it wherever you like, go for just a raw hem instead of a stem hem, embroider whatever floats your boat, it's completely unique to you. (Or whoever you let lose with some thread near your jeans, this cute little peace sign was a surprise from my mum, which makes me love these jeans even more). I'm loving raw hems at the minute, so paired this spring / summer trend with another, step hem jeans. Once I'm bored of the step hem trend, I can always even them out to just have the raw hem, which is almost like having a new pair of jeans..kinda.

Psst. I actually used to do DIY and sewing tutorials all the time, so check out all my previous tutorials if you fancy getting your craft on. My DIY gingham smock dress tutorial could save you some cash as there's a hell of a lot of gingham on the high street right now! What do you think of these DIY boyfriend embroidered jeans with iron on patches and step hem? Quite a lot going on, but the more the better with this trend, don't you think?
